This week’s Westwood Award children with our star pupil, Ciara. Ciara has had a wonderful year so far; she is always hard working and enthusiastic-completing every challenge with a smile!
Mr McGregor celebrated the fantastic news that Westwood children and staff have completed the 6500 mile distance to Uganda. Superb team effort!

Congratulations to Y6 for trying their very best during SATs week. A focused and dedicated week! As a special treat, our wonderful PTFA funded a visit to the local Sports’ Centre.
During assembly this week, Gabby shared her special cub neck tie..and we even had a demonstration on how to wear it!
Mason showed his football trophy. He is representing the school next week in a Blackburn Rovers primary festival. Another opportunity to show his talent.

And Westwood’s Star this week is Keiran. He always puts 100% effort into all his work and is also a thoroughly nice chap-a friend to everyone.
Keiran is also a Westwood hero, taking fast action to help an adult who had fallen over on the playground. I am ever so proud of you Keiran!

After just two weeks, Westwood children and staff have run an incredible 2793. We are already in Africa- Keep up the good work folks!
During our assembly this week, we presented flowers to Mrs Gilchrist and Miss Thomas because it was, sadly, their last day at Westwood. We are all going to miss them and hope that they will keep in touch.
We also said, ‘congratulations’ to Mr and Mrs Bradley who are celebrating their Ruby Wedding anniversary this weekend.
Our sporting teams were competing during the week and so I had the fabulous job of presenting certificates AND a trophy!! . KS1 participated in a sporting festival organised by Chorley Sports Partnership. Well done team, you performed brilliantly!
On Tuesday evening we took a team of Y5 and Y6 children to Clayton Green Sports Centre where they represented Westwood in the annual Clayton Cup event. And what an event it was! Through effort, team-work and determination, the children finished third overall (our highest place finish in many years) and were also presented with the sportsmanship certificate. They went on to show true grit in the tug of war, winning their first round…and their second round…and then the grand final! In the photograph you can see Westwood’s tug of war ‘secret weapon’, Chelsea, holding up a well-earned trophy.
Last but not least in this action-packed assembly, our Westwood Award children received their certificates. Well done children for showing such focus and hard working attitudes all week.

Thank to Year 5 children for sharing their Easter holiday homework project about the Ancient Greeks. Chelsea showed us her beautiful Greek Urn, Joshua gave us a quick lesson on The Olympics and Romano showed us his fantastic model of the Acropolis.
Children have also been busy over the Easter break with their clubs and activities.
We also had a technical demonstration from our Y4 computer whizz kids.
The children showed us how they could use a computer programme to make a lego crocodile’s jaws open an close. Brilliant!
And a great start to the Summer Term for our Westwood Award children who have really impressed teachers with their hard working attitudes.

We are all very proud of Lydia, our Westwood Star pupil. Not only is making superb progress in Reception, Lydia is also becoming much more confident in class.
